First Steps to Fat Loss

Did you know? The most important step you can take in order to lose fat, get fit and stay that way, is to prepare your spirit and soul - first. It’s a sorely overlooked fact, but it is true! If you just make a quick decision that you’ll diet and lose weight without properly preparing yourself, you will fail. Most people do.

There are some very simple, basic things you can do to jumpstart real fitness, which begins with FAT loss. That’s different from “weight loss” which can be losing water and even muscle, which you don’t want to do.

In these next four newsletters I want to give you some basics to think about as we approach spring and summer. Off come the layers of clothes and if you find you have an extra layer of padding you don’t want – pay close attention over these next few weeks.

So let’s get to it. The first thing you need to do is be sure you are truly ready to do whatever it takes to lose fat and get fit. That requires a firm, personal commitment. This is what I consider preparing your soul – mind, will and emotions. In order to make the kind of commitment that will carry you through, you need to access your emotions.

WHY do you want to get fit? You need a compelling, emotional reason. My client, Michael, was finally able to make this type of commitment when he realized his blood sugar was out of control and he was experiencing numbness and tingling in his toes! Once he did, he lost 10 lbs. the first 2 weeks!

That got his emotions involved – fear of diabetes, losing limbs, eyesight, his ability to work. Sometimes fear is the emotion that you need to access. You know what motivates you best.

Take the time to find the emotional, compelling reason. I suggest you write it down and look at it DAILY. Then and only then can you create a specific, powerful goal. (“I lose 10 lbs. in these 7 weeks” is an example.)

The next part of this preparation includes spirit and soul. Once you find your compelling reason and set your goal, I suggest you write out some positive, faith confessions that you will speak over yourself daily. These replace negative, failure thoughts in your mind, strengthen your will and build your faith!

Science clearly proves what the Bible has always said: what you think, believe and expect is exactly what you will have!

If you think it’s impossible for you to lose weight – it will be - for you.

If you believe you have no self-control, that’s what you’ll experience.

If you expect to fail – you will.

Renewing your mind to the truth of God’s Word as it impacts your health is critical. Whatever negative belief you have, write a positive faith confession to replace it.

For example: “I can never stay on a diet long enough to lose any weight.” Replace that with: “I can do all things through Christ Who empowers me and I exercise the fruit of self-control within me DAILY.”

This is all explained and set forth, step-by-step in the “Today’s the Day 7-Week Fitness Plan” in detail. But these tips should get you started preparing your spirit and soul. Next week I will talk about preparing yourself physically.

As always, until next week, I wish you overflowing, abundant health, peace and joy and I call you BLESSED (empowered to prosper and to succeed!)
