Healthy_Recipes > My Favorite Multi Grain Breakfast

I don’t have a grain for breakfast every day, but when I do this is one I put together myself and especially love! I buy my whole grains from the bulk bins at the local health food store because they are much less expensive that way. Here’s what I do:

I buy a pound or so of each:
steel cut oats
thick cut oats
rye flakes
barley flakes
quinoa flakes
buckwheat cereal (ground and ready to cook – not the groats – about 2 cups into this mixture)

I combine them in an airtight container and mix them well. Then on days when I know I’ll want some I put 1/2 cup of this grain mix into a bowl, put a tablespoon of Amasai, kefir or yogurt in and cover with water. I let this soak, covered on the counter overnight.

In the morning, I drain it – bring about a cup (or a little over one cup) of water to a boil – add in that grain mix, a small handful of raisins, mulberries or Incan berries, or any organic dried fruit,  plus 1/4 cup of oat bran and cook over high heat, stirring constantly until it thickens up. Because the grains were soaked, it doesn’t take very long – less than 5 minutes.

I add in sesame seeds, chia seeds, Beyond Organic Sprouted Seven,  stevia, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and ginger; either some nuts – walnuts or pecans usually – or even a tablespoon of cashew or almond butter while it’s hot from the stove. I add a splash of almond or coconut milk and that holds me for HOURS! And it is so delicious.

Try it and let me know what you think!
